The Black Square tablet can manage payload and fuel and displays real-time weight-and-balance information; the simulator native interface may also be used.

  1. Open the Black Square tablet Payload page or use the simulator's native payload/fuel interface.
  2. Set fuel and payload for the planned simulator flight.
  3. Check gross weight remains within the B36TP limit and confirm the centre-of-gravity crosshair remains within limits.
  4. For takeoff planning, ensure neither fuel quantity indication is in the yellow arc and plan at least 20 gallons in each tank.

  1. Switch BATTERY MASTER ON and verify at least 23 V on the bus.

Fuel must not be introduced until starter-driven gas-generator speed is established; the simulated engine can be damaged rapidly by an improper start.

  1. If conditions are exceptionally cold, close the oil door as directed by the checklist; otherwise leave it in the normal start position.
  2. Switch the starter ON and verify bus voltage remains at least 15 V.
  3. Allow gas-generator speed to reach at least 15% Ng before introducing fuel.
  4. Move the condition lever to ON.
  5. Monitor ITT continuously and keep the start below 1,090°C.
  6. At 52% Ng, switch the starter OFF.
  7. Switch ignition OFF and check the engine instruments.
  8. Switch the generator ON.
  9. Within two minutes, verify generator load is below 60 A and bus voltage is about 28 V.

After shutdown, residual heat can make the next start exceed temperature limits; Black Square recommends dry motoring if ITT remains above about 150°C.

  1. Before a quick-turnaround restart, inspect ITT rather than assuming the engine has cooled.
  2. If ITT remains above roughly 150°C, keep the condition lever at CUT-OFF and dry-motor with the starter to increase airflow through the engine.
  3. Where practical in the simulator, position the aircraft into the wind to aid cooling.
  4. Attempt the normal fuel-on start only after temperatures are suitable.

Black Square models starter overheating and can permanently disconnect an abused starter from electrical power.

  1. On battery power: limit attempts to 30 seconds ON, 60 seconds OFF; 30 seconds ON, 60 seconds OFF; then 30 seconds ON followed by 30 minutes OFF.
  2. On external power: limit attempts to 20 seconds ON, 120 seconds OFF; 20 seconds ON, 120 seconds OFF; then 20 seconds ON followed by 60 minutes OFF.

Stabilise electrical loads and configure avionics, lighting and cabin systems after the PT6 is running.

  1. Confirm all annunciators are extinguished or understood.
  2. Within two minutes, verify generator load has fallen below 25 A.

  4. Switch avionics ON.

Black Square simulates a ground-only beta range in the bottom portion of the forward power-lever input to reduce thrust without excessive brake use.

  1. Use normal forward power to start rolling.
  2. When ground deceleration or reduced residual thrust is needed, move into the simulated beta range as appropriate for your hardware setup.
  3. Keep beta use on the ground; in-flight beta is not permitted by the aircraft limitations.

The B36TP simulates turbine damage from dust, sand, gravel, ice and other debris; the inertial separator is the primary protection.

  1. Consider the surface beneath and ahead of the aircraft before adding power.
  2. Use the ICE DOOR / inertial separator whenever operating on unimproved or marginal surfaces.
  3. Allow roughly 15-20 seconds for the separator louvers to reposition before the protection is required.

  1. Set the parking brake and test/consider the annunciators.
  2. Confirm the remote compass is slaved and aligned.

  5. Hold the prop-governor test and verify limiting near 1,990 RPM.

  1. Hold GENERATOR RESET and verify main generator load falls to zero.

  4. Confirm the STBY ALT annunciator extinguishes and generator load settles below 75 A.

  1. Exercise electric trim.
  2. Set the heading bug about 30° left, engage the autopilot master and HDG mode, and observe the yoke/flight-director command left.

  4. Press autopilot disconnect once to confirm AP OFF, then again to confirm flight director OFF.

Confirm the turbine, electrical and aircraft systems are inside the published departure envelope.

  1. Verify oil temperature is at least 115°F.
  2. Confirm the BATT TEMP annunciator is extinguished.
  3. Switch air conditioning OFF.
  4. Switch the landing light ON.
  5. Set the transponder to ALT mode and weather radar ON as required.
  6. Confirm Fuel Pump 1 remains ON from the run-up and that both electric fuel pumps were proven functional before takeoff.
  7. Confirm at least 20 gallons are available in each tank and the fuel gauges are not in the yellow arc.

  4. Retract the landing gear once no usable runway remains.

  1. Establish approximately 115 KIAS and select the opposite fuel tank.
  2. Confirm the firewall fuel shutoff is OPEN.
  3. Switch Fuel Pump 2 ON and verify at least 5 PSI fuel pressure; if pressure is not available, use Fuel Pump 1.
  4. Keep airspeed within the developer restart range and remain below 20,000 ft for the restart attempt.
  5. Switch ignition ON and engage the starter.
  6. At a minimum 12% Ng, move the condition lever ON while monitoring ITT below 1,090°C.
  7. Disengage the starter at 52% Ng, return ignition to AUTO, check engine instruments and switch the generator ON.
  8. Within two minutes verify generator load is below 60 A and bus voltage is about 28 V.
  9. If power is not restored, move power lever to IDLE, feather the propeller, shut off fuel and electrical generation/ignition, and select a favourable landing site.
