Local Notes & Flying Tips

  • The Sound of Mull: Between Skye and Oban, keep the high terrain of Mull off your right wing. It's a gorgeous visual corridor that naturally funnels you toward the OBN NDB.
  • Islay Approach: As you descend toward EGPI, you'll cross the Sound of Islay right over the northern coast. A perfect excuse to overfly the Bunnahabhain distillery—just picture a dram of Stiùireadair waiting for you after shutdown.
  • Machrihanish (EGEC): Built during the Cold War as a diversion base for nuclear bombers, this runway is comically large for the Comanche. Aim for the numbers, or you'll be taxiing for a very long time!
